Over the years, not all of our dogs have known how to walk with their master.  They viewed their time outside as their own and ran from one really great scent to another, but Skipper is different.

When my husband, Paul moves he moves with him.  Skipper keeps him in sight and at times walks so close to Paul’s heel I’m afraid he’ll get kicked. If Paul comes to a stop–Skipper does as well. And Skipper’s short legs often force him to run to keep up with Paul’s long gait.  He is the perfect example of how to walk with a master.

So, how are your ‘walking to follow’ techniques?  Are you ready to move out when the Master moves?  How close do you stay to Him as He moves along and how much effort are you willing to put in to keep up?

Notice too, that Skipper does not run ahead to lead but always stays in a position that allows him to see where his master is going. That is also an important factor in following. Move forward, stay close, keep step and retain a line of sight with the Leader.
