When you’ve got a guide you can trust, you don’t have to worry about the path you’re on.

I love to travel.

Ask anyone who knows me, and they will tell you that I have a bit of wanderlust in my blood. I am known as girlonadventure on Instagram. In fact, for those of you who have been with me for a while you’ll remember this blog used to be called that too. Discovering new places rates high on my happy scale.

Over the years, I have been so very fortunate to experience cultures, customs, and food completely different from my own. Turkey, Thailand, Syria, and Tajikistan would have seemed daunting without the help of a guide. Even Germany, Greece, and the Netherlands were made easier to navigate because of expert advice from a local. Sure, we could have gotten around on our own, but we would have missed so much of what makes each place special. Having a guide allows us to see a place through their eyes giving insight to how things work in a place that is foreign.

One such time was when I visited Thailand. It was my first trip to a country outside the US other than Mexico. I remember sitting in our minivan that had twelve seats and zero seatbelts as we zipped through traffic to reach our hotel. My thoughts as we dodged pedestrians, motorcycles with more than two riders, and tuk tuks, “I really should be terrified,” but somehow, I wasn’t. I watched our guide for his reactions. He was confident and peaceful in our surroundings which made me confident and peaceful. He knew exactly where he was going and how to get there. I didn’t have to worry. He had this so I could just sit back and take in the sights and sounds around me.

In case you haven’t discovered it for yourself, God is a terrific guide when it comes to journeying through life. Well, I guess more accurately, the Holy Spirit is. I cannot tell you how many times He has taken me places I have not been to show me something I have not seen before. He is constantly saying, “Look this way, there is something I want you to see.” That something often changes the way I look at things. And when things seem chaotic and a little scary, and I don’t know where I’m going or how to get there, I can have confidence that the Holy Spirit does. I just need to trust, sit back, and take in what He wants to show me.

God has the best adventures.

There is no doubt about it. Some are simple and sweet, others feel dangerous and filled with the unknown, but all have their purpose. God uses each one to transform our thinking and grow us into the people He desires us to be. And we need not worry. He knows the way to get there.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation.
