When Anxiety Stops By

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalms 94:19 NIV

Anxiety. Its weight and crazy tentacles reach into every area of life strangling our senses. When in the midst of anxiety, life feels hopeless and unchangeable. It demands our attention and wears us out lugging it around.

I love that the Psalmist says “when anxiety was great” God overwhelmed it with comfort. Comfort’s definition is ‘to give strength and hope.’ Filling my mind with thoughts of God, his strength, his hope, his love, his peace, breaks the hold of anxiety. It is sometimes hard to shift focus from whatever is making us anxious to God, but when we do, light returns to our souls. Training our brains to go to God when anxiety shows up saves a lot of heartache. Let’s put our minds on things above. It’s a much better view.
