Tender Mercies

Our time of fostering our little June Bug is coming to a close.

I am so happy that my granddaughter, Carrie (June’s mama), has done the hard work of putting a sober life into action. She has gone to classes, met with counselors, followed treatment plans, and met every requirement the county has demanded. She has visited her daughter every single time without fail, and video chatted almost every day. And what’s more, she has rejoined the family, coming to holiday dinners and birthday celebrations. It has been such a very welcomed change, nothing short of a miracle. The healing everyone prayed for came in a big way. Only God could have orchestrated such a beautiful outcome.

But along with all the happiness,

you can imagine there is a bit of sadness as well. Feeling grief over the change can’t be helped. Love is like that if it runs deep. I will miss waking up to June’s morning songs and her smiling face. My husband and I have been very blessed to watch over this sweet baby girl during this past year. It was an experience that was both humbling and rewarding.

Many folks have shared their concerns, telling us they wish June would stay with us. We get it. We do. We wanted the same, but as time went by, we could see God had a different plan in mind, and his plans are always, always, always better than ours. We have started our transition visits preparing June (and us) to live with Carrie. Carrie has created a sweet and nurturing space to make a home with June, and June is at ease and happy to be there. It makes my heart full to see them becoming a family.

God’s been gracious to Paul and me, too,

by showing us his goodness every step of the way. I’m sure we will shed some tears when our time with June is over, but we are thrilled with the outcome. Our healthy granddaughter is enjoying life with her daughters. I say daughters because over the past few months, Jayme and Mama Carrie (as she’s known at our house) have also bonded, and for that, we are very thankful. These girls will all be healthier knowing their birth mom.

If all goes as planned,

June will go home to live permanently with Carrie next week. Please continue to keep them (and us) in your prayers. Thank you. I appreciate each one of you more than you know.

The Lord is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works.

Psalm 145:9 World Messianic Bible

What’s Next?

We plan to visit Carrie and June on a weekly basis when we are in California. We want to be a part of their lives as grandpa and grandma. We also want to insure Jayme and June have each other as they grow up as well as strengthening Jayme’s bond with her Mama Carrie.

And then there’s more cooking along with recipes, some travel to places we’ve never been, a ministry trip south of the border, and a few spiritual lessons that will make their way into print. At least that is the plan, but I know from experience, God sometimes has something else in mind. Stay tuned. You never know where I’ll pop up.
