Grow Beauty and Flourish

The love of gardening is a seed sown that never dies.

Gertrud Jekyll

While Little June slept the morning away, we moved scraggly, overgrown mums from our window boxes, and planted zinnias and alyssum in their place. I’m not sure if zinnias were the best choice for the boxes, but it was all the garden department had. I have to say, and they are an improvement over what was there.

I wish I knew more about plants. My mom knew a lot about them and did her best to teach me. I wish I would have listened more. I could have learned so much. Now, I have to figure it out on my own because she’s tending what I Imagine to be a beautiful and lush garden in heaven.

I may not have heeded her instructions on mastering the garden, but I do try my best at making things grow. I did embrace my mom’s joy of growing beautiful things. My girls have also tried their hand at it, and now I want to pass that along to Baby J and Little June if I get the chance. There is just something about being where things are growing, and beauty is created. Perhaps, it’s in our DNA. After all, God created us to live in a beautiful and flourishing place.

The glory of gardening: hands in dirt, head in sun, heart in nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.

Alfred Austin

“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.”

~ May Sarton

  1. My dad was a masterful gardener, Patty, and I did manage to learn some things from him, but I wish I had absorbed more. I really miss him! The photos are lovely memories to cherish for all of you – gorgeous blooms!
    Blessings!

I love gardens and watching things grow. ❤

  2. I’m with you Ms. Patty. I’m better at growing crops and calves than flower gardens, but Gog gives each of us wgat we need to fulfill His plan for us. I stand amazed at the huge, loving hearts He has blessed you and Mr. Paul with. Love to all the girls; and blessings to the wonderful and dear friends who are caring for the great harvest to come.
