Wandering on Purpose

We have been adventuring!

We decided that it was time we made a more significant effort to get away regularly. When you travel between homes, it makes it harder to set aside a specific time to relax and regroup. The reality of owning two places is that we go from house to house, spending much of our time there working on maintenance and general upkeep. So, to combat maintenance fatigue, we are trying to be more intentional about planning more time to wander.

The destination for this weekend is Watkins Mill State Park in Missouri. We have been here one other time and enjoyed the surroundings so much we decided to return. There is not a bad camp spot in the place. All spaces back up to a broad strip of the forest, giving you a feeling of seclusion. Baby J has had a wonderful time exploring, picking up sticks, and trying to eat a few acorns she’s found on her wanderings.

It feels good to be in Missouri. I lived here for a few years when I was a child. It was a beautiful place to grow up. It gave us lots of room to run the hills and have some amazing exploits, and make some great memories along the way.

I hope our adventures create that same kind of fond feelings for Baby J when she looks back through where her life has taken her. Remembering the good things is essential to maintaining a healthy mindset. It helps increase optimism, has a positive effect on mood, and makes us feel happier about life in general. I want that for my girl. If I can help create the opportunity for some good times and good memories, these trips will not only be fun right now but will also have a positive impact in the years to come.


Enjoy the pics I took along the way. We plan to sit and watch Baby J enjoy the outdoors, take a walk by the lake and watch the sunset, visit the actual historic woolen mill the park is named for, eat some good food, and of course, make some memories.

  1. Loved your photos, Patty, and glad you are making memories for yourselves and for Baby J. She is so precious! We would love to do some purposeful wandering right now, but with Danny’s preexisting heart issues, we are pretty much stuck at home. So it gladdens my heart to see the adventures that other are having and sharing. Stay safe and have fun enjoying God’s creation!
