Lip Smackin’ Goodness

Baby J has discovered food and she’s loving it. I mean, all of it. Good thing since she lives with us foodies. She’s game to try whatever is on our plate. In fact, she prefers what we are eating over baby food and she lets us know her delight by smacking her lips between each bite.

I love that Baby J wants to try what Paul and I are having and I hope it goes beyond our dinner plate. I hope as she grows, she finds that the other things we are passionate about call her heart too. I pray she chooses to do things like serve others, work hard, show grace, and be generous. My desire is that she develops a faith all her own that is a deep relationship with God that allows her to entrust her whole life to Him. To help Baby J get there, we as her parents need to show her what a healthy spiritual life looks like.

I often use the hashtag when I am posting a particularly yummy and nutritious recipe that says if you are what you eat, I only want to eat the good stuff. It’s a reminder to me that food is not only for pleasure, but it is also fuel and building material for our bodies. In the long game of life, it matters what I put in my body. My health depends on it.

Our bodies are not the only things that need to be well fed. It is just as important for us to fill up with good stuff that will keep our spiritual selves strong and healthy. And what shall we ‘eat’ to accomplish spiritual vitality? I suppose there are many things, but one verse in Philippians comes to mind.

“Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians 5:8

Paul, the writer of Philippians, goes on to say, “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things.” Philippians 5:9

Ah-ha! Do you see it? Diet and exercise right here in the scriptures. Lol! All kidding aside, I want to fill myself with the good stuff that Paul talks about in verse 8 and put it to use. Those things that are true and honorable and just will grow us into the people we need to be, the people that the world needs us to be. And just like Baby J and her lip smacking over good food, we should desire those praiseworthy things with the same enthusiasm as we take in their goodness and put it to practice.

Here’s the challenge. Don’t accept the mediocre fare the world dishes up. Set your tastebuds on something more delicious and nutritious. Fill your plate with all the goodness God has to offer and see if your spiritual health doesn’t improve.

Taste and see that the Lord is good . . . Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Proverbs 34: 8, 10

What’s Next?

Maybe you would like to get in on all the goodness God has to offer. Come back for my next post. I will be sharing the method I use to study Scripture. Plus I will give you a few resources that will help you look into the Bible on your own to learn more about God and His ways.

I will also be posting a recipe for Arroz con Pollo that we tried this week. My granddaughter, Hero, said it wasn’t good. It was amazing. Baby J gobbled it up, too.

See ya soon! Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I think it’s absolutely wonderful that Baby J is willing to try new foods, and has started smacking her lips when something pleases her taste buds. How cute is that? And yes, Patty, we have to fill our bodies with nutritious foods, and our souls with the wholesome words from the scriptures. I’m looking forward to your next post about how you go about studying the Bible.
    Blessings!

I am hopeful that Baby J will continue to love all types of food. It will make it so much easier to move about the earth.

  2. Amen and Amen Ms. Patty! Your Baby J continues to melt my heart with each photo as she grows. I thank God in my prayers each day that God has entrusted her future in your and Mr. Paul’s care. The Rapture may come before she makes it, but if not, I pray I live long enough to see the sweet, gentle soul she grows into. I’ll understand why because I know what was sowed into her and who did it! God’s blessings!
