Go Outside: Jackson Lake

Baby J loves the out-of-doors. So, do I. There is something about being in the open air and seeing something beyond the four walls of home. It feels good. Add that to a little exercise, and you have a win. We are always on the lookout for easy hikes/walks that will be suitable for two people of average physical fitness and a baby who rides along in the pack.

Yesterday, on a friend’s recommendation, we chose Jackson Lake near Wrightwood, California. Formed in the San Andreas fault by snow runoff, this small body of water provides a peaceful environment for families to enjoy fishing, canoeing, and easy hiking. Its approximate one-mile level path was perfect for us, just long enough to enjoy the excellent weather and beautiful fall colors.

As a child, I remember my mom telling us to go outside and get some fresh air. I’m not sure what her motive was but as an adult, I realize it makes you feel better. It helps change your perspective by giving you a new horizon to look at. In most cases, it serves as a positive distraction from the things not so positive in your life. I don’t think it matters whether it is the wilderness or in urban areas. You still receive benefit from being outside, breathing some fresh air, and getting a little exercise.

I have written a few posts about hiking. If you want to read more, try Urban Hiking, Sometimes You Just Want to Be Carried, and Constant Companions. I hope to post more easy hikes in the future as we find them. If you know of any, please do tell. We can’t wait to get outside again.

I love fresh air! Especially when there are a lot of trees. I definitely feel healthier.

Yes, trees definitely make a difference. We have been able to walk in the redwoods a couple of times this year. That was magnificent. Yesterday’s walk was through beautiful pines and oaks. Thanks for stopping by and chatting. It was nice to “see” you. 🙂

  2. I’m not sure I would classify it as “hiking” Ms. Patty, but I absolutely love being outdoors (when the weather’s just right) and wandering around our little homestead here in NE Texas. The fresh air, sunshine, cool breeze blowing through the pine trees; my own personal little slice of heaven. So glad to hear you and your little family are enjoying the outdoors. Especially grateful that all those terrible forest fires out there aren’t impacting your visit. God’s blessings, stay safe, and don’t hurry home; there’s a cold spell coming through. 🙂

  3. So, so healthy to spend time in the outdoors, Patty, I heartily agree! And Jackson Lake looks like a perfect place for a family outing. The little one is growing so fast, and is beyond adorable! You are blessed, my friend, so overwhelmingly blessed.
