Enough Is Enough

A couple of years ago, I was prompted to write a poem. You need to know poetry is not really in my wheelhouse but God called and I followed. What I wrote was in response to words I had heard from someone who was struggling with identity, with circumstances, with life. Being enough seemed out of reach. I know from my own experience it's easy to go down the road of adding other words to myself like rejected, hopeless, broken, and unlovable. Thank God for His grace and mercy. God rescues us by pulling us from the slimy pit we find ourselves in.

What I wrote was in response to words I had heard from someone who was struggling with identity, with circumstances, with life. Being enough seemed out of reach. I know from my own experience it’s easy to add other words like rejected, hopeless, damaged, and unlovable to an already broken spirit. Thank God for His grace and mercy. God rescues us by pulling us from the slimy pit we find ourselves in and reminds us the we belong to Him.

Enough

Not enough is all I hear,
Its dirge continues in my ear.
The plans You’ve crafted can’t be true
If my life You really knew.
Hopelessness seems to play
Again and again throughout the day.
Do I try to rise only to fall?
It truly is no use at all.
I’m flawed and damaged beyond repair
I’m too far gone for You to care.
It’s my own doing, it’s mine to mend,
But what do I do with these tattered ends?
I can’t seem to start. I’m stuck in this place
In terrible need of Your glorious grace.

A turning point. A new song starts.
This one’s words stick in my heart.
You are My child. I am enough.
No argument. No more rebuff.
Trust Me. This is the way
To challenge those fears that seem to stay.
Let My song of love rewire your brain
Then life as you know it will ever be changed.
Enough is enough, oh, can’t you see?
Being enough is found in Me.

Therefore, anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
