I’m back. . .It has been a while since I have posted, but it has been for a good reason. I have been working with some other writer on a new project. The following is one of the devotions that will be included in our study Legacy: Living NOW for Future Generations.
. . . fit your feet with the preparation that comes from the good news of peace. . . Ephesians 6:15
Childhood poems bring back wonderful visions of my girls when they were small. So much
You may recognize the verse from Ephesians as being part of the passage about the putting on the full armor of God. The idea of “fitting the feet in preparation” is actually a picture of disciples listening to their Teacher’s instruction. Interaction with Jesus is taking place as He imparts His wisdom to their souls.
This is especially important when we look at the beginning command in Ephesians 6:10-20, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the full armor, that you might stand against the wiles of the Devil.” Putting on shoes is just a part. But what an important purpose they serve. They signify readiness. And that readiness begins at the feet of Jesus, gleaning His insight before even one step is taken.
As legacy givers, we must first model sitting at Jesus’ feet in our lives. What that looks like in your home is up to you, but whatever you choose, you must pass it on. Our children need to be ready to stand firm. They, too, must tightly fasten on their shoes, equipping their feet with the preparation that comes from the good news of peace.
“. . .you must teach [God’s instructions] to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up. . .” Deuteronomy 6:7
Sing it to them as you rock them in your arms, and whisper to them as they sleep.
. . .And the itsy, bitsy spider climbed up the spout again.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm
and hold on to the traditions that we taught you. . .
